Such films relate stories of journeys to different places; film z podróży a war film – a film whose plot focuses on events connected with war; film wojenny a western- a movie dealing with the life in the western US in the late 19th century; western People associated with film: actor – a person who acts in a film or play; aktor actress – a female actor; aktorka cast - all actors involved in a movie; obsada cameraman- a person whose job is to operate a camera during making a film; operator filmowy, kamerzysta *** cineaste - someone who is extremely interested in the cinema; a person professionally involved in film production; kinoman; osoba zawodowo związana z produkcją filmową co-star- (noun) a film star who plays with another famous actor in a film; gwiazda filmowa grająca w filmie z innym sławnym aktorem; to co-star (verb) – (about a film star) to play a role in a film with another famous actor; (o słynnym aktorze): grać u boku innej gwiazdy filmowej Przykład użycia: Can you remember the name of the actor who co-starred with Nicole Kidman in “Eyes Wide Shut”? Czy pamiętasz nazwisko tego (słynnego) aktora, który grał u boku Nicole Kidman w “Oczach szeroko zamkniętych”? film buff- someone interested in film; kinoman film star – a very famous and admired actor or actress; gwiazda filmowa film director – a person who is responsible for the film and tells the actors engaged how to play; reżyser film producer – a person who is in charge of practical aspects of making a film, such as financial issues; producent filmowy scriptwriter – a person whose job is to write the text, i.e. the plot and dialogues of a film; scenarzysta Other phrases: audience- the people who view a film or play; widownia to play a role- to act in a film or play; grać rolę starring/ leading role- the most important role in a film or play; główna rola title role – the role of the character, whose name is mentioned in the title of film or play; rola tytułowa character – the person who is represented in a movie; postać, bohater Uwaga! W języku angielskim istnieją dwa odpowiedniki polskiego słowa „bohater”: „hero” i „character”. Rzeczownik „hero” odnosi się do osób, które wykazały się np. waleczną postawą, ktoś podziwiany. W przypadku bohatera książki, filmu, sztuki używamy określenia „character”. villain – a character who breaks the law, hurts others, etc.; czarny charakter premiere – the first time a film or play is shown; premiera award (verb) to give a prize to a film; przyznawać nagrodę, nagradzać; (noun) a widely recognized prize, such as an Oscar; nagroda award-winning – about a film which has been awarded; o filmie, który został nagrodzony credits – the list of the cast and other people involved in producing a film; lista wykonawców film review – a critical description of a film, including the author’s opinion about it; recenzja filmowa location – a place different than a studio where a film is made; plener on location- w plenerze plot – the story reflected in a film; fabuła, akcja prequel – a film which relates to events preceeding the plot of another, earlier film sequel - a film which relates to events which take place later than the plot of an earlier film and continues it, kontynuacja trailer – an advertisement of a film which consists of its most eye-catching parts; reklama anonsująca film, zapowiedź filmu Uwaga! Słowa sequel i prequel łączą się z przyimkiem to: It’s only a matter of time when a sequel to this movie will be made. To tylko kwestia czasu, kiedy nakręcą kontynuację tego filmu. Wyraz trailer łączy się natomiast z for: I have seen the trailer for “The Day After Tomorrow” and it seemed pretty interesting. Widziałem reklamę zapowiadającą “Pojutrze” i wydała mi się całkiem interesująca. soundtrack – the music illustrating a film; ścieżka dźwiękowa special effects – effects such as lighting, objects, sounds which are made especially for the needs of a film and make it more attractive or convincing; efekty specjalne Phrasal verbs be in- to act in a movie; grać w filmie: If you want me to decide whether to go and see the movie, tell me who’s in it. Jeśli chcesz, żebym zdecydował, czy iść zobaczyć ten film, powiedz mi, kto w nim gra. star in – (about a moviie star) to play a role in a film; (o gwieździe filmowej) grać rolę w filmie be on – about a film: to be shown to audience in the cinema; być w kinach Let’s buy a newspaper and check what’s on. Kupmy gazetę i sprawdźmy, co jest w kinach. Wordbuilding STAR Słowo star oznacza gwiazdę, również filmową. Wyraz stardom oznacza natomiast sławę, pozycję gwiazdy (na przykład filmowej, muzycznej, itp.), status osoby słynnej i podziwianej. Rzeczownik starlet (przez dodanie przyrostka “-let” do rzeczownika tworzy się niekiedy zdrobnienia, np. booklet- książeczka, piglet- prosiaczek) oznacza natomiast „gwiazdkę”, „gwiazdeczkę”, czyli osobę u progu kariery, która marzy o sukcesie i statusie prawdziwej sławy. Professions Nazwy zawodów takich, jak director, to wyrazy utworzone od czasowników opisujących dane czynności. Ilustruje to poniższa tabela:
