TYPE 1 Pewne zdarzenie będzie miało miejsce w przyszłości lub teraz, jeżeli zostanie spełniony warunek (w przyszłości lub teraz). Zdarzenie jest całkiem możliwe; wystarczy, że zostanie spełniony dany warunek. If + PRESENT TENSES + FUTURE/MODALS/IMPERATIVE If you lend me your basketball, I’ll help you with your homework. He will go to London if he gets a passport tomorrow. She will get angry if you are lying in bed all morning. If you have read the book, I will borrow it. You can see the doctor if you make an appointment. If she is busy in the kitchen, don’t interrupt her. We’ll go for a walk if it doesn’t rain. = We’ll go for a walk unless it rains. TYPE 2 Pewne zdarzenie miałoby miejsce teraz lub w przyszłości, gdyby został spełniony pewien warunek (teraz lub w przyszłości). To tzw. „gdybanie”. Zdarzenie jest mało prawdopodobne (warunek jest trudny do spełnienia) lub niemożliwe (spełnienie warunku jest niemożliwe). IF + PAST SIMPLE / CONTINUOUS + WOULD + INFINITIVE He would go to London if he had a passport now. We could buy a new house if he had more money. If I were you, I wouldn’t go there tomorrow. He would help us if he were here now. TYPE 3 Pewne zdarzenie miałoby miejsce w przeszłości (ale nie miało), gdyby w przeszłości został spełniony pewien warunek (ale nie został spełniony). To „gdybanie” na temat przeszłości. Spełnienie warunku jest niemożliwe, bo niemożliwe jest cofnięcie przeszłości. IF + PAST PERFECT + WOULD HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE He would have gone to London 3 days ago if he had got a passport. If she’d had a ladder yesterday, she could have cleaned the windows. She would have passed the exam if she had answered all the questions. If you had been driving more carefully, you wouldn’t have had the accident. TYPE 0 Pewne zdarzenie ma miejsce zawsze wtedy, gdy jest spełniony dany warunek (zasady nauki, przyrody, życia codziennego). IF + PRESENT SIMPLE + PRESENT SIMPLE If I oversleep, my father gives me a lift. If you mix blue and yellow, you get green. If you press that button, you get extra sugar. TYPE 2+3 Pewne zdarzenie miałoby miejsce w przeszłości, gdyby spełniony był jakiś ogólny warunek (dla teraźniejszości lub przyszłości). IF + PAST SIMPLE / CONTINUOUS + WOULD HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE He would have invited you if he wasn’t already coming to the dance with his girlfriend. She would have ordered something else if she didn’t like spaghetti. If I were you, I wouldn’t have gone to that party yesterday. TYPE 3+2 Pewne zdarzenie miałoby teraz miejsce, gdyby w przeszłości został spełniony jakiś warunek. IF + PAST PERFECT + WOULD + INFINITIVE I would be happily married now if I hadn’t told Mary I didn’t love her. I would be very rich now if I had invested in shares a few years ago.
