She is an eight-year-old girl She is eight years old W pierwszym zdaniu „eight-year-old” pełni funkcję przydawki, określa stojący za nim rzeczownik. Można to wyrażenie przetłumaczyć jako „ośmioletnia”. W drugim zdaniu „eight years old” pełni funkcję orzecznika. Najlepiej poznać to po tym, że bezpośrednio przed orzecznikiem nie stoi rodzajnik, po orzeczniku nie stoi rzeczownik, a najczęściej znajduje się on na końcu zdania. Trzeba pamiętać, że w pierwszym przypadku używamy „year” w liczbie pojedynczej, w drugim w mnogiej! Inne przykłady: It is a ten-kilometre-long street. The street is ten kilometres long. It is a five-meter-wide gate. It is a five meters wide gate. TEST
